Singapore to Kuala Lumpur: Flight, Bus, Train
Three sensible ways to Kuala Lumpur: fly (about an hour in the air, 4-5.5 hours door to door), a direct coach (about 5-7 hours into the city), or the Shuttle Tebrau to JB Sentral then a direct ETS to KL Sentral (5-6 hours total).

Kuala Lumpur is the classic longer getaway from Singapore, and you have three sensible ways to get there: fly, take a coach, or ride the train. Flying wins on raw speed, the coach is simple and cheap, and the train avoids the Causeway road jam entirely.

Match the mode to your priorities - speed, budget, or a predictable timetable.

By flight
Airlines including Singapore Airlines, Scoot, AirAsia, Batik Air and Malaysia Airlines fly Changi to KLIA in about one hour in the air. Door to door, budget 4 to 5.5 hours once you add getting to Changi, airport time at both ends, and the KLIA Ekspres (about 28-30 minutes) into the city. Fares are cheapest booked a few weeks ahead and climb close to departure, so compare the all-in price including any checked bag.
By coach
Coaches are the straightforward choice, with many operators and departures through the day and night from points such as Golden Mile and Boon Lay. Expect about 5 to 7 hours. You clear immigration at the border, getting off with your bags. An overnight coach can save a hotel night.
By train
There is no single through-train, but the rail route is comfortable and jam-proof:
- Take the KTM Shuttle Tebrau from Woodlands Train Checkpoint to JB Sentral - about S$5, 5 minutes, with immigration cleared at the stations.
- At JB Sentral, change to a direct ETS service to KL Sentral - about 4h20 to 4h40.
Total journey is about 5-6 hours. ETS standard-class fares are commonly around RM73-109.
Entry rules
Malaysia’s entry rules (visa-free visit pass for Singapore citizens, MDAC exemption) are the same as for a land trip - see Malaysia entry requirements. Confirm fares and schedules with the operators before you travel.
